This regular array of balls of opal act like a diffraction grating that will refract various wavelengths (approximately the same wavelength as the diameter of the spheres). Different sizes of spheres will diffract different wavelengths of light thus giving rise to the various flash of different colors.

Most Zen Buddhist short stories require some level of meditative contemplation to figure out

Zen has a rich tradition of storytelling. Actually, just about the entire human race has a rich history of storytelling. Why do we like stories so much? Because we can identify with them. Stories, whether real or not, pull and tug at our emotions.

We connect personally with stories. Whereas someone can tell us that it’s important for us to appreciate and care for our parents, another person can tell us a story about the life of a daughter and her mother, and about how neither could ever see eye-to-eye all the way up until the day that the mother passed away.

Even if you aren’t a daughter, but a son, or if it was your father whom you had that type of relationship with, or even if you just feel like you don’t appreciate your mother or father (or both) enough, regardless, a story like that can touch you in a way that someone simply telling you, “hey, it’s important that you appreciate your parents”, could never do.

We need to experience something directly in order to really learn what it’s about. This is wisdom, as opposed to knowledge much like you’d acquire in a class at school, a parrot-like type of learning that serves as a nice basis for establishing the necessary foundation for certain larger tasks, but which can serve little real use elsewhere particularly in advancing your well-being.

I love Zen stories. Not just because I find them fun, because I do (most Zen Buddhist short stories require some level of meditative contemplation to figure out), I love them because their purpose is to teach a lesson. Also, Zen short stories go beyond just Zen. They're really just stories about life. So keep in mind I only say Zen stories because they originated from the Zen Buddhist tradition. They speak of truths which everyone can learn from, though (as does all of Zen).

The lesson can be anything- any undeniable life truth which can be discovered through a life devoted to looking within yourself. This is the life of any Buddhist, many non-Buddhists, and should be the life of anyone who cares to find the path to true peace and happiness. These stories only seek to point the way.

Don’t take any of them for the truth without investigating them for yourself. The point isn't to believe blindly, it's to develop confidence in your life and in the way. By the way, I mean the way to live our best life and ultimately find peace within ourselves and with others.

In our own galaxy there are between 100 to 400 billion stars.  But at night you can see 2500 stars just with the naked eye (and if there is no light pollution).  Currently, we can’t take a picture of the Milky Way from above.

This is due to the fact that we are inside the galactic disk, about 26,000 light years from the galactic center. It would be like trying to take a picture of your own house from the inside.

This means that any of the beautiful pictures you’ve ever seen of a spiral galaxy that is supposedly the Milky Way is either a picture of another spiral galaxy, or the rendering of a talented artist.

In fact in the 1990s, there was a massive power outage in California and the residents of Los Angeles actually started to worry about the strange clouds they saw overhead. As it turns out, they were actually seeing the Milky Way for the first time.

1. In China, the Milky Way is called “The Silver River.” In ancient Chinese myth, the river was placed in the heavens by the gods trying to separate a weaver who made their clothes and the herdsman who loved her.

Spain has the best cubic Pyrite in the world

I know that the crystal structure is primitive cubic, but I don’t see how cubic structure on the molecular level translates to cubic structure on much larger scales. If you are given some number of cubes, there are many different ways to assemble the cubes face to face, and only one of these ways is to create a large cube. So why is it that the pyrite in this rock forms nearly perfect cubes?

Spain has the best cubic Pyrite in the world. Here is a large natural cubic crystal completely formed with all 6 sides. The faces are highly lustrous with only a few minor edge nicks and one slight contact line where a second Pyrite once just the slightlest lay against this one

All completely pure primitive cubic crystalline compounds will form macroscopic, perfect cubes. Deviations in macroscopic form are the result of impurities somewhere in the molecular lattice, otherwise a low cohesive energy such that the chunks of material don't stay together well (e.g. by electrostatics).

 Perfectly pure $\mathrm{N}\mathrm{a}\mathrm{C}\mathrm{l}$ forms cubes likewise, but smaller ones, because the cohesive energy is lower (if I'm not mistaken). Thus the energetic affinity of a material for itself (over available impurities) increases probability of perfect macroscopic formation that models the crystal unit-cell. 

Most compounds attract foreign species though, so nicely perfect cubes of any cubic-structure chemical are hard to find -- even of pyrite, as mentioned in the other answer. Lots of materials form surface oxides before expanding a macroscopic version of the unit cell; others bond with similar ionic "pieces" -- e.g. contamination of 

K+$\mathrm{K}{\phantom{X}}^{+}$ in NaCl$\mathrm{N}\mathrm{a}\mathrm{C}\mathrm{l}$ to form chunks of rock salt, KCl$\mathrm{K}\mathrm{C}\mathrm{l}$.

NaCl$\mathrm{N}\mathrm{a}\mathrm{C}\mathrm{l}$ crystal is used as an optic barrier for samples in infrared spectrometers because when pure it can be shaped linearly in any dimension to form any desired (semi-)planar shape with atomic precision. Effectively you can remove one atomic layer at a time because it's a pure two-component cubic macro-system.

I remember when I traveled to the Dead Sea in Israel -- there were really nice, big (like 1-inch), perfectly formed salt cubes on the shores. I have some pyrite at home too. It's cubic but some chunks form out in different proportions and directions due to impurities/chemical environment.

Watermelon Ice Cream Slices

Whisk together the condensed milk, salt and reserved watermelon juice in a large bowl and set aside. Whip the heavy cream in a large bowl with an electric mixer on medium-high speed until firm peaks form, about 2 minutes.

Fold about one-half of the whipped cream into the condensed milk mixture with a rubber spatula until combined, then fold the lightened mixture into the remaining whipped cream until well blended.

Pour the mixture into the frozen watermelon, filling it all the way to the top. Cover with plastic wrap and freeze until solid, 3 hours and up to overnight.
