Ram Dass - How to Love Yourself

Instead of trying to love yourself, just accept yourself. Accept your humanity instead of trying to love yourself. Get behind the polarities of love and hate and simply allow yourself to be as you are and accept it. Appreciate what is. See people as trees - you don't judge a tree when looking at it.

I loved when he said "I had to risk my truth, I had to risk being human with other people". That takes such incredible courage and vulnerability, and I have to ask myself, can I be that brave? Wow, my ego doesn't like that at all! It wants to be seen as a "somebody" and more particularly, a "spiritual" somebody, and play to my idea of what I think that is, because that's safe, that's not being vulnerable and honest, that's wearing a mask, that's hiding. I want to be willing to let go of those ideas and concepts, to drop the mask, to be brave enough to be fully genuine and honest in every moment, even if that means I'm having a melt down or my behavior is anything but my idea of acceptable, or spiritual, or nice, or whatever. No judgement, just being unflinchingly honest and unguarded in every moment and accepting whatever shows up. Love love love Ram Dass, who shines the light on my games and challenges me to leave them behind, get real, and come up higher.
