The Shiva Linga or Lingam is a symbol that represents Lord Shiva in Hinduism

Lord Shiva Lingam at My Son sanctuary in Vietnam
...

You must have seen a lingam, Shiva’s symbolic representation as phallus. There are millions of temples devoted to Shiva’s lingam. In fact you will never find a statue of him. His statues have completely disappeared; only the symbol has remained.
...

...
The symbol is not only lingam; it is yoni also. It is both, man and woman. It is man into woman, it is sun into moon. It is the male meeting the female.

It is yin and yang in deep sexual embrace. This is the indication of how the inner man meets with the inner woman, because the inner has no face.
...

 ...
That’s why Shiva’s statues have disappeared. The inner is just energy, so the lingam has no form; it is just energy.

But the story is told…. Don’t be shocked by it, because the Western mind has become much too afraid of reality. The story is that Shiva was making love to Devi, his consort. And of course when a Shiva makes love to his consort, it is no ordinary love.

 ...
And he does not make love with closed doors; the doors were open. There was some emergency in the world of the gods, and Brahma and Vishnu and the whole crowd of gods had come to ask Shiva’s solution about some urgent problem.

So they came in the room – the privacy of Shiva became a marketplace – but he was so deeply in love that he was not aware that a crowd was watching. All the gods became voyeurs.

They could not leave, because something tremendous was happening. The energy was so high; they felt it. They could not leave. They could not disturb, because it was so sacred.
...

A Shiva Linga consists of three parts, the lowest of which is called the 'Brahma-Pitha', the middle one, the 'Vishnu-Pitha' and the uppermost one, the 'Shiva-Pitha'. What the Linga Means to Devotees: There is a mysterious or indescribable power or 'Shakti' in the Linga, to induce concentration of the mind, and helps focus one's attention. That is why the ancient sages and seers of India prescribed Linga to be installed in the temples of Lord Shiva. For a sincere devotee, the Linga is not merely a block of stone. It is all-radiant, talks to him, raises him above body-consciousness, and helps to communicate with the Lord. Lord Rama worshiped the Shiva Linga at Rameshwaram. Ravana, the learned scholar, worshiped the golden Linga for its mystical powers. Based on the teachings of Swami Sivananda, when the mind is clear and is without prejudices, we will realize that the Linga form of Shiva is the most innocent form of Brahman that our ancestors had realized. It is pure and they got it from pure nature. Many of the forms that we worship today are the reflections of our mind, which is corrupted by ego, society and education.

And Shiva went on making love, and on and on and on. The gods became worried, whether he is ever going to end it. And they were in such a problem that an urgent solution was needed.

But Shiva was completely lost. He was not there, Devi was not there – the man and woman have completely merged into each other. Some unity has happened, a great synthesis, a great orchestra of energies.
...

They wanted to stay, but then they become afraid of the other gods. That’s how the puritan mind works. They were very interested in seeing and watching, but they were afraid because if others saw them watching and seeing and enjoying it, their prestige was at stake.

So they all cursed Shiva: “From today your form will disappear from the world and you will always be remembered as a phallic symbol”: lingam in yoni, sun in moon, the jewel in the lotus. “Now you will be remembered always as sexual orgasm.” This was a curse. This always happens.

I have one friend who is very against pornography, and his whole library is full of pornography. So once I visited him; I said, “What is this?”

He said, “I have to read all the pornographic books just to criticize them. I have to be aware of what is happening in pornography because I am so much against it.” He is eating his cake and having it also.

In the My Son area of central Vietnam, there are a series of temples and other structures – the last remnants of the Champa people, who ruled this area for more than a thousand years. They held Central Vietnam from about 200AD to 1700AD; the area was finally annexed by the Vietnamese in the 19th Century as the Nguyen dynasty reached power. Influenced by Hinduism, the Champa built temple complexes in Central Vietnam – including these at My Son, which is now a World Heritage site. The temples are largely dedicated to the worship of Shiva, the Destroyer (known locally as Bhadresvara). There were, at one time, as many as 70 temples and other buildings … but after the fall of the Champa, the jungle began to reclaim the structures. The types of ruins were identified by letter when French archaeologists began studying them about 120 years ago – today’s image is from the base of a Type G building. These echo the “temple mountain” style in Cambodia – and show the Khmer influence on the Cham people. They were built around 1200AD as the Champa were at the height of their power. In the foreground you’ll see a sandstone lion statue – and behind to the right just some of the animated terracotta ‘Kala masks’ representing the God of Time, another of Shiva’s incarnations. https://cairnscommunications.com/2017/01/19/travel-pics-theme-t-for-temples-what-a-champa/

The other devas cursed Shiva, but to me that curse seems to have proved to be a blessing, because the symbol is really beautiful. It is the only phallic symbol in the world worshipped as God, without any condemnation.

...
Hindus have completely forgotten that it is phallic; they don’t think that it is phallic. They have accepted it deeply. And the symbol is beautiful because that is not only Shiva there, there is yoni also.

...
Yin is also there. The lingam is placed in yoni; both are meeting. It is a symbol of meeting, of orgasm, of energy becoming one.

 ...
The same happens inside, but it will happen only when you drop the mind. Love is possible only when you drop the mind. But if you drop the mind, then not only love but God also is possible; because love is God.

If an inner conflict exists in you between sun and moon, then you will always be interested in the outer woman. If you are a man, you will be interested in the outer woman; you will be fascinated by the outer woman. If you are a woman, you will be fascinated by the outer man.

Once the inner conflict is resolved and your sun energy is moving into the moon energy and there is no longer any rift, they are bridged; then you will not be fascinated by the outer woman or outer man. For the first time you will be sexually content.

...
I am not saying that you will leave the outer woman. There is no need. Or you will leave the outer man – there is no need. But now the whole relationship will be totally different – very harmonious. It will not be a relationship of need; rather, it will be a relationship of sharing.

Right now when a man approaches a woman it is a question of need. He wants to use the woman as a means.

The woman wants to use the man as a means. That’s why all women and all men are continuously in a fight: basically they are fighting within themselves. The same fight is reflected outwards.

And when you are using a woman, how can you think the woman can be totally at ease with you, in harmony? She feels she is being reduced to a means. And no man or woman is a means. She feels she is being used like a thing, reduced to a thing.

Her soul seems to be lost; that’s why she is angry. And she tries to reduce the man to a thing. She turns the husband into a henpecked husband; she forces him. And this goes on. This is more a conflict than love – a struggle. More like war than like love – more like hatred than like love.

Once you are in tune with your inner woman and man, suddenly you are in tune with others also. Your inner conflict disappears; your outer conflict disappears. The outer is just a shadow to the inner. Then you can be related; or you may not be related.

You are totally independent. Then it is whatsoever you choose it to be. If you want to be related, you can be related; but there will be no conflict.
 ...

 ...
If you don’t want to be related, if you want to be alone, you can be alone; and there will be no loneliness. This is the beauty when one comes to an organic unity inside.

That’s what Patanjali’s whole effort is: how to transform the solar energy into lunar energy. And then, how to be a witness to both, meeting, merging, becoming one. How to be transcendental to them.

The mind will never allow you; unless you drop the mind. The mind always is divided because that is its very blood; it depends on division. So you are a man, you are a woman – this is division, this is mind. Who is a Buddha – a man or a woman?

We have a symbolic representation of Shiva as Ardhanarishwar – half-man/ half-woman. That’s perfect. And that has to be so because you are born of a father and a mother – half of you comes from your father, half of you comes from your mother.

So at the most the difference between a woman and man is a difference of emphasis; it is not a difference of quality. The woman is consciously woman, unconsciously man; the man is consciously man, unconsciously woman. That’s all the difference is.

Very difficult, because your minds have been conditioned to be a man or to be a woman, and the society emphasizes the roles too much. It does not allow a fluid being; it makes solids of you. When the boy and the girl can understand, the parents start emphasizing, “You are a boy.

Don’t play with dolls; that’s not good for a boy. You are going to be a man. This is for girls.” Men don’t count girls at all. “Sissy, girlish. Don’t do it; be a man.” And the small boy, not knowing where he is being led, starts focusing on being a man more and more.

He goes far away from his original unity, the pure unity of his being. He becomes man, that is half his being. And a girl becomes a woman, that is half her being.

...
She is told not to climb on the trees; that is only for boys. What nonsense. Trees are for all. “Don’t go swimming in the river; that is for the boys.” Rivers are for all.

That’s how humanity is impoverished. Hmm?… the girl is given a certain role and the boy is given a certain role. Their totality is completely lost.

...
They become fixed in their windows; they cannot see the whole sky; the frame of the window becomes too much.

Man is a frame, woman is a frame – it is not your being. Don’t be too identified with the frame. Get out of it.

Once you start loosening, relaxing, and once you start reabsorbing the rejected, the denied part; you will become so enriched you cannot even imagine, dream. Then your being will be whole.

...
My Son sanctuary is abandoned and partially ruined Hindu Temples (Mainly Siva as Bhadresvara) built between 4th – 13th century by the kings of Champa (Chiêm Thành in Vietnamese).

Mỹ Sơn (Kingdom of Cham) is located near the village of Duy Phú, in the administrative district of Duy Xuyên in Quảng Nam Province in Central Vietnam, 69 km southwest of Da Nang, and approximately 10 km from the historic town of Trà Kiệu.

The temples are in a valley roughly two kilometres wide that is surrounded by two mountain ranges.

Between 4th and 13th centuries there was a unique culture on the coast of contemporary Vietnam, owing its spiritual origins to the Hinduism of India.

These huge tower temples were constructed over 10 centuries of continuous development in what was the heart of the ancestral homeland of the ruling Dua Clan which unified the Cham clans and established the kingdom of Champapura (Sanskrit for City of the Cham people) in 192 CE.

...
Although Mahayan Buddhism was influential during this period, Saivism survived it in Vietnam. These temples are constructed in fired brick with stone pillars and decorated with sandstone bas-reliefs depicting scenes from Hindu mythology.

Their technological sophistication is evidence of Cham engineering skills while the elaborate iconography and symbolism of the tower-temples give insight into the content and evolution of Cham religious and political thought.

...
In the past, about 70 temples of Siva, Krishna, Vishnu etc used to exist here, but now only few remain.

Earliest evidence recovered at Mỹ Sơn relate to the era of King Fànhúdá (Chinese: 范胡达; pinyin: Fànhúdá; Vietnamese: Phạm Hồ Đạt, Sanskrit : Bhadravarman, literally “Blessed armour” but also meaning the Jasminum sambac flower), who ruled from 380 until 413 CE.
...

He spent latter part of his reign waging war against the population of Chinese-occupied northern Vietnam.

...
Bhadravarman built a hall containing a lingam to worship Siva under the Sanskrit name Bhadreśvara “Blessed Lord“, a composite created from the king’s own name and the word īśvara “lord” commonly used to refer to Siva.
...

He erected a Stele at MySon, which has inscription that he has dedicated the entire valley of Mỹ Sơn to Bhadreśvara. The text ends with a plea from Bhadravarman to his successors: “Out of compassion for me do not destroy what I have given.

Drawing upon the doctrines of saṃsāra and karma, If you destroy [my foundation], all your good deeds in your different births shall be mine, and all the bad deeds done by me shall be yours. If, on the contrary, you properly maintain the endowment, the merit shall belong to you alone.”

Bhadravarman’s successors heard his plea, for Mỹ Sơn became the religious hub of Champa for many generations. More than two centuries after Bhadravaman’s foundation, the Bhadresvara temple was destroyed by fire.

...
In the 7th century, King Sambhuvarman (Phạm Phạn Chi in Vietnamese, Fan Che as transcribed from the Chinese), who reigned from 577 until 629 CE, rebuilt the temple, reinstalled the god under the name Sambhu-Bhadresvara, and erected a stele to document the event.

This stele affirmed that Sambhu-Bhadresvara was the creator of the world and the destroyer of sin, and expressed the wish that he “cause happiness in the kingdom of Champa.”

The stele also applauded the king himself, claiming that he was “like a terrestrial sun illuminating the night” and that his glory rose “like the moon on an autumn evening.”

In 605 CE, Chinese general Liu Fang led an army southwards from the area of what is now northern Vietnam, defeated the elephant-riders of Sambhuvarman, and sacked the Cham capital, making off with an enormous booty that included over one thousand Buddhist books as well as the gold tablets commemorating the reigns of the previous eighteen kings.

Heading back north with their heist, the Chinese invaders were struck by an epidemic that felled a large number of them, including Liu Fang.

...
Sambhuvarman, for his part, returned home to his kingdom, began the process of rebuilding, and made sure to send regular shipments of tribute to the Chinese court, in order through appeasement to prevent a recurrence of the recent disaster.

The original temple map was reconstructed by scholars, after bombing destroyed the original edifice during Vietnam War.

King Prakasadharma (Po Kia Pho Pa Mo, as transcribed from the Chinese) ruled Champa from 653 AD to 687 CE. Upon corronation, he assumed the name Vikrantavarman and expanded the borders of Champa toward the South.

He was dedicated to both Gods Siva and Vishnu, which was unusual for Champa Kings. In later years, Mỹ Sơn served as the religious and cultural center of the Cham civilization in central Vietnam, as well as the burial place of kings and religious leaders.

People of Champa maintained written records in both Sanskrit and old Cham. They wrote on perishable materials, such as large leaves, and also created inscriptions in stone.

They used scripts borrowed from India. None of the writings on perishable materials have survived. However, numerous stone inscriptions have been preserved, transcribed, and translated into modern languages.

...
Historically there were two Buddhas who took birth in ancient India, but historians and religious hindu gurus tried to project both of them as same person as they felt the purpose of both was the same.

...
The first Avatara Buddha, who was incarnation of Lord Vishnu, established the philosophy of Ahimsa(nonviolence) and convinced those followers of Vedic customs, who by that time had become bent toward animal sacrifice, to give up such rituals and become kind to animals.
 ...

 ...
He did not establish any godless or monist philosophy like the latter one.

This Avatara Buddha was born to his mother Anjana in a place, what became known as Bodhgaya in later years. He is the actual avatara of Vishnu. Infact, he was mentioned even by asura king Ravana many years ago.

The second Buddha known as Gautama or Siddhartha was born as a prince in Lumbini, now in Nepal, to Mayadevi in 1887 BCE.

He is the one buddhists refer about, the prince who left home to do austerities to find enlightenment. He went to Bodhgaya to meditate because of its spiritual potency as the birthplace of the avatara Buddha.

Then he became enlightened to the reasons for suffering in this world, and developed a godless way of becoming free from suffering. Since then, he established the monist and godless philosophy of Buddhism, which became named after him by his followers.

...
The word Buddha in Sanskrit means “The Awakened One“, one who is awakened to Reality, who understands true nature of the mind, the world, and all sentient beings.

...
The Theravadin texts refer to six preceding Buddhas (those who have awakened) as Vipasyin, Sikin, Krakuccanda, Konagamara, Kashyapa, and Maitreya as the Buddha of the future.

 ...
Everyone who is awakened his Buddhi(sense) can become a Buddha. “Bodhi” means “Awake”, and “Sattva” means “sentient”.

 https://www.facebook.com/handofhannah

The term “Bodhisattva” refers to the awaked ones who has sympathy for the humanity absolutely as well as show empathy for them and be ready to help them. Generally, people often use the word “Bodhisattva soul” for those who are good-hearted.

In order to become the Buddha, the Buddhist must go on the Bodhisattva path. But here, we are talking about the Vishnu’s avatar Buddha and Gautama Buddha, whose teachings are followed by Buddhists worldwide at present. Infact, Gautama Buddha himself did not create a religion.

...
His followers went to other kings, mentioned that Gautama was born as Siddhartha in Ikshvaku dynasty in which Lord Rama also was born 55 generations ahead.

So, he is incarnation of Vishnu and we all should follow him.
...

...
Biggest irony at that time was that, while Gautama Buddha wanted everyone to equally practice his principles irrespective of caste, his followers convinced Kshatriyas (Kings) that Siddhartha was born in their caste, so they should take pride in that matter and follow him.

Adi Sankaracharya, while discussing or arguing with others, did not discriminate between the purpose of one or the other.

Sankaracharya, who was born more than 1200 years after Gautama Buddha, developed his own sunya philosophy, which was very much like the Buddhist philosophy, replacing the Buddhist nirvana with his Vedic Brahman, to defeat Buddhism and drive it out of India.

He succeeded most effectively, as at that time many were leaving Vedic culture and converting to Buddhism. But with this new Mayavadha philosophy from Sankaracharya, Buddhism bowed, conversions stopped, and Buddhism itself started to decline.

This is one main reason why these two Buddhas became merged into one identity. Later many Acharyas in India defeated Sankaracharya’s monist or impersonalist Mayavada philosophy but the purpose of stopping conversions of hindus into buddhism was already achieved.

 ...
Srila Jayadeva Goswami’s composition “Gita Govinda” describes 10 avatars of Vishnu as : Translation :

Krishna, He who took ten incarnations! I offer my obeisances unto You for saving the Vedic scriptures as Matsya-incarnation;

You help up the universe as Kurma-incarnation, and lifted up the world as Varaha, the Boar incarnation; as Nrishimha You vanquished Hiranyakashipu;

As Vamana You deceived Bali Maharaja; as Parasurama You exterminated the corrupt warrior class; as Rama You slew Ravana; as Balarama You took up the plough;

...
As Buddha You bestowed compassion, and as Kalki You kill the Mlecchas. In his Dasa Avatara Stotram, Srila Jayadeva writes in the ninth verse:
...

Translation : O Lord of the universe, Kesava! You took the form of Lord Buddha Who is full of compassion and stopped the slaughter of animals which is strictly forbidden in the Vedas.

Infact, puranas do not mention concept of Dasavataras. Vishnu had many other avataras like Hayagreeva, Mohini, Venkateswara which were not included in that list of 10.

Books like Amara Kosa, Prajna-Paramita Sutra, Astasahastrika Prajna-Paramita Sutra, Sata-shastrika Prajna-Paramita Sutra, Lalita Vistara, etc describe multiple Buddhas.

...
Above books reveal the existence of three categories of Buddha, namely: Human Buddhas: like Gautama, who came to be known as Buddha after enlightenment.

...
Bodhisattva Buddhas: Personalities like Samanta Bhadraka, who were born enlightened. Adi (original) Buddha: the omnipresent Vishnu’s Avatara of Lord Buddha.

Lankavatara Sutra is a famous and authoritative Buddhist scripture. From the description of the Buddha in this book, it can be concluded that he is not the more recent Sakya Simha or Gautama Buddha.
...

In the beginning of this book we find Ravana, King of Lanka, praying first to the original Vishnu incarnation Buddha and then to the successive future Buddha.

A part of this prayer is : Translation : Ravana, the king of Lanka, at first recited in the Totaka metre, then sang the following – ‘I invoke in my memory the aphorisms known as Lankavatara-sutra, compiled and propagated by the previous Buddha (Vishnu’s incarnation).

 ...
The son of Jina (Lord Buddha) presented this book. Lord Buddha and his sons, who will appear in the future, as well as Bhagavan, the Vishnu incarnation, will continue to instruct all from this book.’

...
Lankavatara Sutra is wrongly depicted as conversation between Gautama Buddha and a Bodhisattva named Mahamati. Infact, it is conversation between Aadi Buddha (original Buddha) and his follower Mahamati. It is set in Lanka, which Ravana ruled later.

This proves that the first original avatar of Vishnu came on earth long long before Gautama Buddha and Ravana, who lived in Treta Yuga knew about him.

As the cycle of four yugas keep repeating, Ravana, in some treta yuga must have worshipped Buddha from one of his previous Kali or some other Yuga.

These MMA fans... where the hell are you with your weight cut jokes and tiramuso jokes

bandwagonism at its best.
I like Khabib a lot, fantastic fighter and a "real", not fake, person also. He came to UFC 16-0, I really did my research about his previous opponents and they were honestly cans. but his UFC reign is no joke, had a fighter that UFC likes (you know who…) was ragdolling everyone, not lost a round at all, fought with bears as a kid lol , 25-0 , UFC would have made a religion out of him with their marketing. They dont even try hard to have an event in russia but for others they go to their countries and give them main even spots…
to me Khabib is the 155 champion and dont even care about a piece of metal they call belt.
Moving forward though, i hope UFC opens up 165 division, not to solve weight cuts but because 155 is to congested, you have fighters on 5 W streak who cant even make the top 15 rankings. some divisions have like 30 fighters in them and with a couple of wins you are in the rankings, and couple more a title shot, at 155 you can tear your opponents into pieces 10 times in a row and no title shot… Nick Diaz was right when he said this is not a sport, its fighting with no rules.

If the UFC is interested in making money

they really do need to start having events in Russia. Sure, I’m not privy to the red tape that is perhaps more challenging to overcome there compared to other countries but as we are told, Khabib has a massive following there. Khabib’s next fight should be there against Tony. I would think Russian fans are fanatic about their countrymen.
Posted by AtlantaYankee on Jan 1, 2018 | 10:30 AM

Does the average Russian have the money to go to such events?

On top of that, I’ve beentold that there are no laws against online piracy in Russia, so Khabibs following would get their dose of Khabib anyway.

Good points

Couldn’t answer any of them but I just can’t imagine it wouldn’t be a good inroad to make soon.

Russia has some big MMA promotions already

it’s a matter of getting into a market that already has shareholders. M-1 and ABC. Similar to East Asia andONE Championship.
I have met&spoken with the head of M-1 at a conference (i do research in sport business/management), they dont have a good relationship with UFC and Dana personally, they are okay with Scott Coker but notUFC/Dana. Local key partners (tv, logistics etc.) have close ties with M-1, ABC guys already, so it’s hard forUFC to take events there.
The thing is UFC looks at a fighter, they look at the markets they want to break into according to their grand business strategies, and see if that fighter can help. Why you think they never promoted Nate&Nick? they did sick numbers all their career but US market was already done. When you have a guy like Nate who puts on performance winning shows all the time, doing great tv rating numbers, why promote him and make him a star so you have to pay him more for his next fight?
But Conor… Ireland? new market? lets go. Why you think they were so cool with Bisping, or Ngannou? he could barely speak english and they already were supporting him. New market, new audiences.
Because Russia is a tough market to go to, Russian fighters dont get the best push. If Conor had ragdolled all his opponents, was 25-0 and was the monster khabib is, UFC would have made a religion out of him..the next important market for UFC is Africa, specially South Africa but they have not found the fighter they need yet.
and I know some stuff about their markets because we did a consultancy project for UFC about 4 years ago about the markets they want to enter.

Khabib is the 155lb Champion? Really?

If anybody other than McGregor is the Champion it’s Tony Ferguson. You make a very good point in marketing but Khabib is not the most marketable. Muslim to begin with, Dagestan broken English and no harm to him he has the personality of a fence board.
He didn’t do much media work for 219 and that’s fine but for the UFC to be a business he just wouldn’t inspire you. He has never been the most active and the TF fight fell through 3 times I can see why they doubt him. But this year he can prove us all wrong and show us.
If Tony merks him and Conor merks Tony I can guarantee you the same legions of dickheads will still cry about something.
Posted by TAFKA CHAKA on Jan 1, 2018 | 10:54 AM

wow....

yes Khabib or Tony. I say bloody Edson Barboza is more worthy of any recognition at 155 than Conor. what has Conor done at 155? 1 fight? really? why did he even get the shot at 155? because he beat long-term champ aldo at 145? Cody beat long-term champ Cruz too…. his next fight though was a title defence…
and i can’t believe you say Khabib is not marketable, becuase he is muslim … like honestly you are either a facist or just stupid…first of all, the fact that he is muslim is totally irrelavnt, in fact a lot of people in countries where there are many muslims like khabib because of that… in case you didnt now… thats actually a plus point ! and regarding english, are you serious? tell me how fluent Ngannou is with his English and they have been promoting him like hell ! it’s just because he does not have the belt. if he got a title shot when he was 21-0 (5 Ws in UFC) he would have been a god by now. Anderson Silva spoke Shakepeare English, right?! and also, not active? Conor has not fought in how long UFC mentions him anytime they can….the fact that eddie alvarez came into ufc, lost to cowboy, won two edgy decisions and got a title shot, and tony and khabib have not, is just pure joke.
