Sea of Stars - Vaadhoo Island, Maldives

Black panther dreams often show a protective, powerful presence in your life.

They are a powerful creature that represents grace, beauty and strength.

They may also signify that you have an aggressive, ferocious personality.

You may be the type of person who fights for your rights and what you want out of life.

This attitude may extend to others as you fight to protect people who are not strong enough to protect themselves.

The black panther may mean that you should use wisdom to decide your next step.

Sometimes, the black panther appears to show you that others may be trying to use you.

You have to be careful in making your decisions because someone near you may be acting with deceit.

If this is the case, you should carefully look around you to see if there is someone you should be wary about.

If the panther is attacking you in the dream, it means that someone may be trying to slander you.

There may be people you know who are causing trouble or bringing negative energy into your life.

Start by protecting yourself and take action if you need to.

Meanwhile, reevaluate the people close to you to make sure that they deserve your trust.

If you are fighting a black panther in your dream, it shows that you will overcome your enemies and any difficulties that are thrown your way.

If you see a partner threatening you, it indicates that there may be a problem at work or with your business.

Meanwhile, a growling panther is a sign that bad news will soon appear.

Most of the time, the presence of a black panther is a good omen.

It shows that luck will soon arrive in your life.

The panther is able to fearlessly blend into the darkness and skirt the edges of the light.

It may mean that you do not feel afraid despite any dangers that are near you.

Ixchel was mostly worshipped on the islands of Cozumel and Isla Mujeres. On Cozumel there are many evidences of women’s pilgrimages aiming to ask the goddess for good marriages and offspring. Ruins of her temples remained till modern times and it is considered that the priests hidden in a huge statue were announcing the messages of the oracle. The second island was famous for small statues of the goddess which were left there as a thank you gift. They were so numerous that Hernandez de Cordoba, a Spanish conquistador, called this place Isla Mujeres meaning ‘The Island of Women’. Ixchel was also worshipped in Acalan and not much is known about the specific cult but there is a supposition that certain rituals were taking place during the sixth day of the moon phase and after childbirth when a woman was having a bath. https://landofgoddesses.wordpress.com/2012/01/11/ixchel/amp/

If a panther crosses your path in the dream, it means that you are protected, so you do not have to be afraid.

As long as you are courageous and true to yourself, you will not have a problem achieving what you want.

You rarely see a black panther in the wild.

This is for two major reasons.

First, there are very few black panthers left living in the wild today.

Second, the black panther is quite elusive.

It is essentially invisible at night, and it deliberately remains in the shadows.

 https://www.facebook.com/LisaTranscendenceBrown/

When a black panther appears in your dreams, it may mean that you feel that you are equally elusive.

It may feel like you are invisible to other people, even when you are right in front of them.

To get over this feeling of invisibility, you may need to focus your attention, communicate openly and work to get the attention to other people.

A black panther in the dream may also represent that you feel confident and fearless like the black panther.

It could also show your fears about life, other people or success.

Ixchel or Ix Chel (pronounced as [iʃˈtʃel]) is the Maya goddess mostly connected with medicine, fertility and pregnancy and therefore she is considered to be the guardian of doctors, midwives, healers and shamans. She is associated with the moon (particularly its waning phase), earth, water especially in the form of rain, weaving, divination and war. Her name probably comes from the stem ‘chel’ meaning rainbow, it was written with a pictogram signifying ‘red’ and that is why she is called  Lady of the Rainbow. https://landofgoddesses.wordpress.com/2012/01/11/ixchel/amp/

The best way to determine what the dream means, consider what occurs in the dream and your own life situation.

If you let it, the black panther is often a good omen and quite auspicious in your dreams.

Since the early 2000’s, Barry owned and managed Koral’s Tropical Fruit Farm with the growing grounds being on his home property.

I was fortunate enough to get to visit his home in 2013 was left feeling deeply uplifted and inspired.

On his property you could find white and black sapotes, cherimoyas, mexican, brazilian and pineapple guavas, fuyu and hachiya persimmons, pomegranates, passion fruit, 8 varieties of figs, 4 varieties of apples, 4 varieties of avocados, 2 varieties of blood oranges, various citrus trees, aloe vera and seasonal vegetable gardens, as well.

He had approximately 175 trees on his under 2 acre parcel.

Every Sunday Barry would load crates of his organic fruit and drive it down to the Hillcrest Farmers Market.

Barry was very well-loved and known throughout the market, largely due to his vibrant and larger-than-life personality.

He was passionate about his fruit and beliefs and loved inspiring those around him.

Even into his 70’s he was still built like a horse with the energy level of a teenager.

It was an intoxicating energy.

I had known about Barry and his farm for several years but never felt the time was right to contact him.

Well, it finally happened.

He and his residency exceeded all of my expectations.

Barry is an incredibly intelligent and talented man who is full of charisma and the knowledge necessary to create a positive shift in our city.

I left feeling charged and inspired to take further steps in improving my own health as well as continuing to create beauty in this world.

He emits the type of contagious energy that you ALL should want to soak up!

His home is not only his growing grounds but literally created into a living art space.

Almost every inch is filled with hand-made color.

The details are rich and inspired by his travels and zest for life.

“I got involved in fruit because it’s the most rejuvenating way of feeding the body, and the quickest way to detoxify and rejuvenate.

In Guatemala, the traditional indigenous Mayan dress includes an intricate hair wrap. Hair worn in this style is called a Tocoyal or Cinta Head Wraps

People need to detoxify from poor choices: making bad decision of things to put in their bodies causing sickness.

If you have a home, and you want to refurnish, you need to take the old furniture out.

The same goes for the body.

If it's blocked with toxins and things that don’t really serve you, the new items you put in are most effective and receptive in a clean environment.

I eat fruit, juices, and salads.

The optimum time to eat is when you’re hungry.

Don’t get into the rituals of times to eat.

Educate yourself to listen to your body.

Let your higher Self flow through you.

This comes from studying and understanding yourself.

I am a certified detoxification specialist, I have studied with Dr. Robert Morse, and have operated a juice bar for +10 years.“

“My mission is to be a communicator of knowledge and beauty that is derived from nature, and to share it with others to find their personalized way of arriving at their truth.

Also, their sense of personal fulfillment which is achieved from expressing their unique way of serving humanity.“

“When you decide to nurture yourself with the food that is designed for your body, and when you choose the very best fruits, you can express your unique beauty into the world.

Fruit, as high vibrational food, is your tool.

Most people don’t know who they are, where they are going.

Therefore, you need the best tools you can find, and a floorplan showing you what you’re going to create.

It’s the ultimate foundation for your goal on earth.

We all have options.

What they are: either ‘yes or yes‘.

We don’t accept no, or negativity, race thinking or the norm, of believing this is the way it has to be.

We demonstrate by being the example that is powered by positive direction and example.

Yes or yes.

Find your unique power within, by choosing the best food for your body and nurture yourself.“

"I want to inspire others to also only want the very best for their life.

To choose only the very best for their bodies and to share with others.

Not to settle for less, but settle for more.

It’s easy to fall, it’s harder to pick yourself up.

I like to teach people how to lift yourself up.

We are all meant to take care of ourselves.

Because when you do that, you can also take care of somebody else. We want to be there as a giver, and a receiver.

Not as a taker.

Many people have been mistreated and misunderstood, in such a way that it has become a challenge for people to even receive.

For instance with compliments.

If you give a genuine compliment, many people put it down.

Just receive the positive!

It’s a matter of retraining your thinking, by creating a new vocabulary of words that you feed to yourself and others.

I’m more than creating fruit trees, I’m about the 'Art of Living' at a higher vibration, which is accessible for all of us.

At Koral's, we’re farming a new humanity.

We’re doing that by utilizing the best the planet has to offer.

The third most important aspect of being alive is to eat..

We all have to do it, the idea is to know what to eat.

What is the most optimal experience of health, beauty and wellness?

Each one of us can choose to live in radiant health and assist others in doing the same, as we collectively restore Earth.

The "how" of this, is in making the choice that each action and thought is uplifting and upgrading, as we go forward to claim our highest good."

Imagine an interconnected island of prefab blocks, floating in the middle of the ocean.

Connected by tunnels and submarines, this marine city will — apparently — offer everything you'd expect to find in a modern metropolis: entertainment, offices, residential areas, parks and even factories and farms.

This is yet another incarnation of the "floating city" concept that's been, ahem, floating around for some time now.

As reported over at Fast Company, the floating city is being touted as a potential solution for China's rapidly urbanizing population:

As China prepares to squeeze in 350 million new urban residents over the new decade, the government will pave 5 billion square meters of new roads and build hundreds of new cities and towns.

And as available land space gets smaller and smaller — especially near the bigger metropolitan regions where people really want to live — China may also start building cities on water.

Designed by AT Design Office, the concept is being developed, initially in a smaller pilot phase, by Chinese construction firm CCCC.

And in yet another sign that China is beginning to understand how fossil fuel use may constrain its growth, the whole project is steeped in the concepts of self-sufficiency and clean energy.

From tidal energy through electric cars to waste-to-energy onsite, there are some promising signs that this island will indeed prove more sustainable than many of its on-land predecessors.

Have you ever thought that ‘Thoughts’ are also living beings?

Thoughts are like seeds that you plant in your mind and feed them; nurture them with your learning and perceptions.

An illustration from India's Ramayana, of Rama and the Monkey King Hanuman...son of the god of winds.

The positive attitude strengthens the plant and empowers the thoughts and ultimately empowers the life.

However, if you let weeds ground its roots in your mind than you won’t be able to attain the pinnacle of mental peace and eternal happiness.

Therefore whatever you think is sown on land of your mind and it’s the resulting thought is what you cut as the ripe crop.

Every thought is associated with the vibrational frequency and each thought is carrying its energy at different frequency.

Motifs on a drum from the Kei islands

You are just the bunch of thoughts and the impressions.

Those thoughts, which are positive, uplifting and in harmony with universe, love and joy have a faster frequency of consciousness and they contain more light energy.

Everything is comprised of vibration and all vibrations are the part of the one soul that is ‘The Super Soul’.

It is a method of describing the overall state of a person.

Everything in the Universe is made up of energy vibrating at different frequencies.

The soul, super soul and entire species of flora and fauna of universe is a Form of Energy.

As you know energy can neither be created nor can it be destroyed.

Energy can only be transformed from one form to another.

Even objects are also made up of vibrational energy fields, including you and me too.

A yếm  is a traditional Vietnamese bodice used primarily as an undergarment that was once worn by Vietnamese women across all classes. There exists a modern variant called the áo yếm, but the historical garment was simply called a yếm. It was most usually worn underneath a blouse or overcoat, for modesty's sake. It is a simple garment with many variations from its basic form, which is a simple, usually diamond or square-cut piece of cloth draped over a woman's chest with strings to tie at the neck and back. The Only difference is, everyone's energy is vibrating at different frequency and on different level. A person’s vibration is a way of describing his overall state of being.

 Ancient Vietnamese currency

From scientific and metaphysical perspective, we are made up of different energy levels which are; physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

A dudou (Chinese: 肚兜, 兜肚, or 兜兜; also known by other names) is a traditional Chinese form of the bodice, originally worn as an undershirt with medicinal properties. With the opening of China, it is sometimes encountered in Western and modern Chinese fashion as a sleeveless and backless halter-top blouse.

Each of these level has vibrational frequencies which combine itself to create our overall vibration of a being which we also called an Aura of a person.

Gourd shaped ladle, Dong Son period (muổng đồng hình bầu, Đông Sơn)

The Albert Einstein.

In 1905, discovered ‘Ignited Humanity's Curiosity’.

Einstein proved through quantum physics that energy and matter are interchangeable and interconnected.

The Formless Universe (Cosmos) and all things within it are interchangeable.

Your energy, vibrational frequency and physical self-care interchangeable.

Dong Son culture

You are a universal energy that is soul manifesting itself in various forms throughout the Universe and it comes from Super Soul (The Highest Energy, The Source).

The original substance is the vibrating Energy from which all the living and non-living beings come out.

The difference between the organism's energy and non-living things is; that they are comprised of different vibrational frequencies.

The matter is just the imagination of the thoughts which occupies our mind and ultimately the mind of ‘The Source’.

Imagination in the thought processing can easily be created by the power of positive thoughts.

So, precisely speaking all living and non-livings things are product of a thought.

It is the thought from which all things are made and which in its original state, permeates, penetrates and fills the interspaces of the Universe and hence gets manifested in the real form.

The only thing that matters is the frequency of your vibrations.

These are two types of vibrational Frequencies the lower and higher vibrations.

Lower vibrations of a person are associated with disempowering thoughts like guilt, jealous, lack of self-worth, negative emotions, poor health, and lack of spiritual awareness.

Higher vibrations, on the other hand, are associated with empowering thoughts, positive emotions, gratitude, appreciation, acceptance, good health and strong spiritual awareness.

Here is an example:

"We all were busy in gossiping and eating food in a certain party; there was little sadness and negativity in the environment.

Shreya arrived at the party and we all suddenly felt happiness.

The environment of the party was transformed into joy and enjoyment.

Her presence made the things lively and positive" statement by a party Guest.

What had happened in the party after the Shreya came?

Dream Photograph - Jacobs Ladder, C.1490 Oil On Panel by French School.

Shreya had the Positive High vibration Frequency which made other people calm and joyous.

It was the inner pleasant music in Shreya’s soul which was heard by the others and that paved the way of Positivity and calmness.

Your thought system decides the height and depth of vibrational frequencies.

It is the system they tell whether you are having high or low frequency.

You become what you think.

Your subconscious mind has some thoughts associated with your lives and that without letting your conscious mind know, makes your destiny.

Old Belief System and perceptions make your entire being.

Positive and negative thoughts are distinguishable like Noise and Musical note.

The sound you make with your thoughts will determine the outside world.

You can create music into your mind through positive thoughts.

You can attract miracles into your lives by changing your old perception and old belief system by raising your overall vibrations in other words by making your thoughts positive and empowering.

Whether it's a negative or a positive thought.

As Winston Churchill said;

"The price of greatness is responsibility for each of your thought"

To take this notion further, to attract the miracles and to fulfill the dreams...

Even the microscopic realm is not immune to Fibonacci.

The DNA molecule measures 34 angstroms long by 21 angstroms wide for each full cycle of its double helix spiral.

These numbers, 34 and 21, are numbers in the Fibonacci series, and their ratio 1.6190476 closely approximates Phi, 1.6180339.

Speaking of honey bees, they follow Fibonacci in other interesting ways.

The most profound example is by dividing the number of females in a colony by the number of males (females always outnumber males).

The answer is typically something very close to 1.618. In addition, the family tree of honey bees also follows the familiar pattern.

Males have one parent (a female), whereas females have two (a female and male).

Thus, when it comes to the family tree, males have 2, 3, 5, and 8 grandparents, great-grandparents, gr-gr-grandparents, and gr-gr-gr-grandparents respectively.

Following the same pattern, females have 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, and so on.

And as noted, bee physiology also follows along the Golden Curve rather nicely.

The Fibonacci sequence can also be seen in the way tree branches form or split.

A main trunk will grow until it produces a branch, which creates two growth points.

Then, one of the new stems branches into two, while the other one lies dormant.

This pattern of branching is repeated for each of the new stems.

A good example is the sneezewort.

Root systems and even algae exhibit this pattern.

Pycnoscelus surinamensis 'black' or the surinam roach is a beautiful soft bodied roach native to Florida.

Surinam roaches are probably one of the easiest species to keep.

Just a box, substrate and some grease around the top of the enclosure for the adults and job done.

P. surinamensis reproduces through parthenogenesis meaning it’s an all female colony that reproduces with no males present.

No need to cull males or worry about ratios here, just leave the colony alone and let them do their thing.

Under Ivan the Great (1462-1505), Muscovy expanded hugely at the expense of its neighbours, annexing Novgorod (1478) and taking much territory from Poland-Lithuania (1493-1503).

Ivan successfully asserted his independence from the Golden Horde (1480).

He took the title Sovereign of All the Russias (1497) and adopted the additional title of Caesar, or Tsar.

Ivan’s successors continued the expansion of Muscovy.

However, in c. 1560, Ivan IV (“The Terrible”, reigned 1533-84) began a reign of terror.

By his death he had eliminated all other members of the royal line, and the nobles had to elect one of themselves, Boris Godunov, as Tsar.

Unfortunately, his rule was engulfed by revolt and foreign invasion, and Muscovy descended into chaos.

Eventually a group of nobles elected a new Tsar, the 16-year old Michael Romanov (1613).

His ministers set about restoring stability, peace and prosperity, a task in which they largely succeeded.

Alexis (1645-76) now reigns as Tsar.

The decline of the Golden Horde has allowed a great movement of Russian peoples eastward into Siberia.

Under Ivan the Terrible, the new territories are populated to a great extent by people fleeing his persecutions.

Not far behind the migrants are the Russian authorities, imposing some kind of control over the new territories, but this is a much less onerous style of rule than in the Russian heartlands.

Why did Napoleon remove the noses of the ancient statues in Egypt?

Untrue. The one-metre-wide nose on the face is missing.

Examination of the Sphinx's face shows that long rods or chisels were hammered into the nose, one down from the bridge and one beneath the nostril, then used to pry the nose off towards the south.

The Arab historian al-Maqrīzī, writing in the 15th century, attributes the loss of the nose to iconoclasm by Muhammad Sa'im al-Dahr—a Sufi Muslim from the khanqah of Sa'id al-Su'ada—in AD 1378, upon finding the local peasants making offerings to the Sphinx in the hope of increasing their harvest.

Enraged, he destroyed the nose, and was later hanged for vandalism.

Al-Maqrīzī describes the Sphinx as the "talisman of the Nile" on which the locals believed the flood cycle depended.

There is a story that the nose was broken off by a cannonball fired by Napoleon's soldiers.

Other variants indict British troops, the Mamluks, and others.

Sketches of the Sphinx by the Dane Frederic Louis Norden, made in 1738 and published in 1757, show the Sphinx missing its nose. This predates Napoleon's birth in 1769.

In addition to the lost nose, a ceremonial pharaonic beard is thought to have been attached, although this may have been added in later periods after the original construction.

Egyptologist Vassil Dobrev has suggested that had the beard been an original part of the Sphinx, it would have damaged the chin of the statue upon falling.

The lack of visible damage supports his theory that the beard was a later addition.

Residues of red pigment are visible on areas of the Sphinx's face.

Athens’ City guided tour, with a visit to the Acropolis & the New Acropolis museum.

Traces of yellow and blue pigment have been found elsewhere on the Sphinx, leading Mark Lehner to suggest that the monument "was once decked out in gaudy comic book colors".

I sometimes get asked how I can put myself out there and make videos and write about such 'bizarre' esoteric material, as though I will be forever the black sheep by being so public about such 'nutty' things.

I have to say, it feels good to be accepted and understood, that is true , but it feels even better ( actually, waaaaaayyy better) to simply be your genuine self no matter how different you are.

Society, or what is accepted in it, is going to show you what has been done and grounded, it is the past, the already manifested.

Your soul on the other hand is several steps ahead.

It is connected to cycles larger than we can understand.

Throw who you are, your true gifts, into the world with a calm persistent fire and you will feel your purpose and understand why you are here.

You will know your true talents and see your beauty as you invest in them, they will echo around you and deepen into cycles of pure creativity.

Speak your heart no matter how you think it may be received.

Make waves.

Inspire.

Grow yourself closer and closer to your joy, your calm and your love.

It is you that you that are meant to align with, not others.

Ixchel with Moon and Rabbits On the small island of Isla Mujeres , "The Island of Women," a 20 minute ferry ride from Cancun, there is a small ancient Mayan temple that was built to worship the goddess Ixchel.

 Leonardo da Vinci
...

Goddess of fertility, healing, the moon and abundant fishing, Ixchel is often depicted giving birth, holding a fish or in the company of a rabbit, all of these symbols represent abundance and fertility in the ancient Mayan culture.

Also the goddess of water and the moon, of childbirth and weaving, she is said to have taken the sun as her lover.

She was honored as the weaver of the life cycle.

She was responsible for giving rain to the crops and was referred to as "Lady Rainbow".

She would overturn her sacred womb jar and let the waters flow bringing fertility to the crops and therefore an abundant harvest.

The coiled snake headdress is a significant artifact connected with Mayan women, both ancient and modern.

Images of ancient Mayan women wearing this distinctive headdress have been found carved on stone monuments, painted on ceramics and murals, and drawn in screen-fold bark paper books called codices.

Similar headdresses are worn today by Mayan women who practice healing and midwifery in the tradition of the goddess Ix Chel.

Every village has its curendera, a medicine woman who uses plant-based remedies for a wide variety of conditions, ranging from respiratory and intestinal ailments to spiritually-caused illnesses such as mal ojo or evil eye.

For all these practitioners of Ix Chel medicine, the coiled serpent holds special significance.

  Mayan cinta headress

Snakes are a powerful symbol among the Maya.

In their primal form, snakes represent the surge of life force that brings all things on earth into manifestation.

One who has mastered snake energy controls forces of creation and destruction, and understands the secrets of existence.

Snakes are connected with water and the rainy season, a time of returning fertility as soils become ready for planting.

The coiled snake headdress is worn by Ix Chel in her moon goddess aspect, associated with women's menstrual cycles and resultant fertility.

Among a group of contemporary Mayas living near Lake Atitlan in Guatemala, the womb is visualized as a coiled snake.

The moon goddess frequently pours water from a jar, symbolic of women's fecundity and the watery nature of pregnancy and childbirth.

Maya tocoyal hair wrap

Ix Chel appears as a healer wearing the coiled snake headdress in both young and old goddess forms.

Images of these goddesses appear in both the Madrid and Dresden Codices, screen-fold books full of hieroglyphs and illustrations painted by the Postclassic Maya, probably in the 15th-17th centuries.

Of the thousands of hieroglyphic manuscripts painted by the ancient Mayas, only four are known to have survived:  The Madrid, Dresden and Paris Codices, named after the cities where they are currently housed, and the Grolier Codex discovered in a cave in Chiapas in the 1960s.

The codices are concerned with astronomical phenomena, such as lunar and solar eclipses, calculating Venus and other planetary cycles, and the 260-day sacred calendar or tzolk'in, which interacts with the 365-day solar calendar or haab, to create repeating 52-year cycles.

These almanacs relate the timing of various ritual and secular activities to different calendrical cycles, and portray women in various everyday roles in the idealized guise of goddesses.

Other connections between Ix Chel and the tzolk'in calendar include the duration of pregnancy and the timing for planting maize (corn).

The Mam Mayas of highland Guatemala link the earth, the moon, and maize in a sacred trinity which they call "Our Mother."

Among the Quiché of Guatemala, the moon governs both women's menstrual cycles and planting the maize crop.

The 260-day calendar is used to plan conception and maize planting; both childbirth and harvesting are expected to occur 260 days after conception or sowing.

Copán is a locale in western Honduras, in the Copán Department, near to the Guatemalan border.

The ruins of the Copan is one of the most important sites of the Mayan civilization.

This is the site of a major Maya kingdom of the Classic era (5th - 9th Centuries).

In the early classical period (from AD 427), the first ruler Yax K'uk' Mo' ruled Copán.

He was praised by later leaders as the founder of the kingdom.

In the late classical period, during 8th century Copan underwent another drastic change.

The pottery had changed style. This marked the beginning of the Great Period of Copan.

The most of the temples and structures which we can see in this site date from the 8th century.

The final ruler of Copan, U Cit Tok', came to power in AD 822.

About this time the kingdom began to diminish.

A symbol of this tragic downfall is Altar L which in AD 822 the king commissioned a monument to represent his time in power, however it was never completed.

Rosalila is the temple of the early classic period.

It is the most completely preserved example of the art and architecture of this period discovered to date.

The facades of the temple are elaborately decorated with complex religious messages.

The themes are cosmological, and emphasize the Sun God, K'inich Ahau – divine patron for Maya kings, and the spiritual namesake of the founder of the dynasty, K'inich Yax K'uk Mo'.

The temple is located over a three-meter tall terraced pyramid, named “Azul.”

There are seven steps on the principal stairway and the fifth step has a hieroglyphic dedication date: February 21, 571 A.D.

This date is close to the end of the reign of Moon Jaguar, the tenth ruler of Copan.

Rosalila is underneath Structure 16.

This temple on the top of the pyramid was build in 8th century and it covered undamaged Rosalila.

During the time they spent in the Columbia River, Lewis and Clark observed a number of basketry hats made and worn by the Chinookan-speaking people who lived in the region.

The explorers described and illustrated some of these hats in their journals, commissioned others for their own use, and collected hats as souvenirs, which were carefully preserved during the long march back across the continent.

Chief Maquinna of Nootka Sound, 1791

Tomas de Suria (1761-1844)

Today five hats at the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology (PMAE) at Harvard University have a provenance that potentially associates them with the Lewis and Clark expedition.

Almost from the moment they entered the Columbia River in late October, 1805, Lewis and Clark saw around them abundant evidence of the Americans who had preceded them to the region—Yankee sailors, mostly from Boston (Fig. 1), who were engaged in a trade for furs along the Northwest Coast.

The explorers were certainly not surprised by this; the Columbia was named after a Boston ship that had first entered the River in 1792, and Thomas Jefferson had specifically instructed them to look there for an American vessel.

"Send two of your trusty people back by sea," Jefferson wrote, "with a copy of your notes; and should you be of opinion that the return of your party by the way they went will be eminently dangerous, then ship the whole, & return by sea, by the way either of cape Horn, or the cape of good Hope, as you shall be able."

Nootka Sound whaler's hat collected by Lewis and Clark

William Clark wrote that a number of Chinook and Clatsop people spoke some English, and American and European clothing and trade goods were common among the Native people of the Columbia River.

On 20 October 1805, Clark reported the first of many observations of "Salors" clothes being worn by local people.

The tradition of trade along the River influenced the relationship that Lewis and Clark developed with the residents of the region, and it consequently differed substantially from their diplomatic efforts across the rest of the continent.

The regular contact that the residents of the Columbia had had with previous parties of Americans and Europeans led to their expectation that the exploring party was there to trade, and that the relationship would be principally mercantile rather than diplomatic.

Wishram Woman with Cap

Unlike the Corps of Discovery, American mariners did not have as their principal motive a long-term stable relationship between Americans and Indians.

Though owners and managers back in Boston sometimes instructed captains to behave in a way that would promote peaceful repeated visits by other ships, the exigencies of specific situations, and the pressure to make a profit on a voyage, often resulted in fraudulent and coercive behavior on the part of the Americans.

Ships regularly sailed away from Northwest Coast Indian villages leaving not only a desire for European goods, but also violence and confusion in their wake.

I have to tell you that growing up as a Sarasota local with countless hours spent on the beautiful beaches of Siesta Key I took the sugar white sands a bit for granted.

My search for the truth behind our perfect sand came while visiting cousins up north one summer when I was shocked to find out I needed to run from the shore to my towel because the sand was so hot!

Ok, it was obvious that the sand was made of larger, rougher grains and not at any where near as pretty as the beaches of Siesta Key but who would have guessed it would scorch my feet!

All of my beach experiences on Siesta Key did not require shoes until you hit the parking lot, in fact we would often leave our flip flops at the edge of the sand, a pretty common practice for locals.

None of that cold snow here, the only white, fluffy stuff is Siesta Key sand!

Most other beaches are made mostly of coral, but Siesta Key’s sand is 99% quartz crushed into a pure white fine powder.

Because quartz is a crystal it actually disperses the heat from the sun and leaves Siesta Key beaches cool to the touch.

Harvard University’s geology department discovered that through millenniums, quartz from the southern Appalachian Mountains down the rivers until it was eventually deposited into the Gulf of Mexico and then onto the coast of Florida.

No one can tell exactly how long this process takes, but because the grains of sand are so fine we know it to be eons in the making.

Sugar white sands of Siesta Key

The sand feels like cool, powdered sugar between your toes!

Siesta Key is widely recognized for having the BEST sand in the world!

It’s fine, white and feels almost like powdered sugar in between your toes while you walk across the beautiful beach.

In 1987 at the Great International White Sand Beach Challenge, it was scientifically proven that Siesta Key obviously has the whitest, softest sand beach in the world.

And since sand like ours takes eons to create, Siesta ended any future challenges for this title.

At first glance, narezushi looks nothing like modern sushi.

It's usually sold as one whole fish, covered in a goopy, yogurt-like sauce.

To serve, sushi chefs will slice the fish into thin layers and arrange them atop a bed of rice in a beautiful pattern.

Sometimes, they prepare narezushi as porridge with hot tea (called ochazuke-rice), or even fry it up like tempura.

But no matter how it's prepared, narezushi is one of those divisive foods that will either make or break your dinner because of the sushi's sewage-like aroma and mouth-puckeringly sour taste.

Of course, for connoisseurs, the stinkier, the better.

"The people who love funazushi, they really love it.

The first time I tasted it, I was actually in high school, around 16 or 17 years old," says Ohashi.

"I thought it was really gross.

But my father, who was also a chef, enjoyed these things.

He put it in a soup for me, which I enjoyed much better."

While he couldn't quite stomach it at first, Ohashi says the taste has grown on him over time.

"Now I enjoy it.

Over time, the lactic acid and bacteria in the rice breaks down the fish and, if done properly, even the head can be fully consumed.

That's the sign of a good funazushi," he adds.

"The technique is a thing to be proud of -- we are proud of making this sushi for 1,000 years.

When you eat funazushi, you can feel the history."

To Ohashi's knowledge, the oldest funazushi has been fermented for a century.

"If it's 100 years old, it's still not rotten because of the fermentation," says Ohashi.

"By that time, it wouldn't be much more than liquid."

The older it is, the rarer it is -- and old narezushi can cost hundreds of US dollars, though the most common types will have aged for about one year.

If you're in Japan, narezushi is actually pretty easy to find.

It's even sold on Amazon.

But for higher-quality versions, travelers will find traditional vendors along the shores of Lake Biwa.

Kimura (725 Gosanjocho, Hikone-shi, Shiga Prefecture; +81 749 22 1775) is one such institution, having sold the dish for more than 50 years.

"Because the fish itself is scarce nowadays, people can't catch enough and we consider this a special meal...

It's no longer a common thing," Akiko Higashimomo, a shopkeeper, tells CNN Travel.

"It's reserved for family gatherings and special occasions.

Because it has a distinctive strong taste it's not a thing that you eat every day."

Finding it in a restaurant is a bit more challenging, at least for travelers, partly due to language barriers.

(in Hinduism and Buddhism) the sum of a person’s actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences; also: destiny or fate, following as effect from cause.

Understanding your Horoscope (i.e. birth chart) may give you the answers you seek about your karma and who you were in a past life.

As you can imagine, this can be a complicated discussion, especially for non-astrologers.

Therefore, I will keep it simple.

There are many ways to look at your Horoscope to learn about what might have been your past life.

For example, some astrologers look to the planet Saturn, retrograde planets, and the North and South Nodes in a birth chart to interpret someone’s past life.

But there is another more basic way to learn about your karma and past life experience.

It is by knowing your “rising sign,” which is also known as the “ascendant.”

Keep in mind that your Horoscope is divided into 12 equal segments, called “houses.”

Each house is ruled by a sign of the zodiac.

And, each house represents a department of life, such as your personality, finances, communications, home, family, children, work, partners, secrets, education, travel, spirituality, friends, goals, hidden secrets and your past karma.

The 1st house of your Horoscope shows your ascendant (or rising sign).

The ascendant sign describes your personality and who you are in the outer world “in this life.”

However, if you imagine rotating the wheel of your Horoscope down by one sign, the result is that the 12th house, now becomes the 1st house.

By doing this - you now create a window into your past lives, your karma, what you’ve learned, and the issues you are meant to work on in this life.
